For foreign entities that do business in the U.S., sell goods or services into the U.S., or who do business with U.S.-based companies, understanding the U.S. court system and litigation process can be a helpful business tool.
This program will serve as a primer on commercial litigation in the U.S., starting with the differences between U.S. Federal and State Courts, along with the often-complicated concepts of jurisdiction and venue.
The program will also cover the steps and scope of the litigation process itself from the commencement of a suit all the way to trial or settlement, and everything that can occur in between. This can include aspects such as documentary and live witness discovery, interrogatories, expert discovery, and motion practice.
Finally, the program will touch on current commercial litigation trends and cross-border issues such as limitations on discovery, subpoenas, and the enforcement of foreign judgments.
