Terry Thornley
General Counsel, APAC
Spencer Stuart
As the General Counsel for APAC at Spencer Stuart, a large global executive search and leadership consulting firm, I lead a team of lawyers that manage all legal issues in the region, including corporate, employment law, data protection, negotiating contracts, and litigation matters. I have over 19 years of experience in the professional services industry developing and mentoring numerous team members, and I hold the CIPP/A and CIPM certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
I also lead a separate global compliance and risk management team that developed and implemented Spencer Stuart's global risk programs, including the Know Your Client (KYC) and sanctions review process, global compliance training program, and global code of conduct.
I have negotiated and managed multiple complex and strategic market entries, employment disputes, and M&A transactions across geographies globally. One example was the incorporation and setup of a new regional business line as part of a M&A transaction carve-out acquisition that doubled the number of employees and increased revenue by over 25% in the region, for which I received the 2019 Lou Rieger recognition award.
I have presented as a panelist on diverse topics that include: Creating and Capturing Value In Negotiations, Non-Competes and Unfair Competition in Asia, Developing and Fostering a Culture of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), Transformation of the Privacy Landscape in APAC, Drums in the Deep: Navigating Global Sanctions Across the APAC Region, and Corporate Counsel in a Post Covid-19 World.
I am passionate about creatively solving business and legal problems, and I enjoy collaborating with diverse and talented colleagues.

Loren Leung
Partner, Technology, Media, and Telecommunications
Bird & Bird LLP
I am a partner in the Tech & Comms team, based in Singapore and Sydney. I advise a broad spectrum of clients across APAC on all aspects of technology, media and telecoms law.
My clients range from large multinational corporations and fast-growth technology companies, through to start-ups expanding in the APAC region.
In particular, I advise clients across a broad range of industries on complex commercial transactions with a focus on technology. I advise regularly on sourcing and outsourcing, software development and licensing, and strategic collaborations and partnerships.
I also have extensive experience advising on data protection and cybersecurity matters. This includes assisting with regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions, designing internal policies, helping companies prepare for and respond to data or cybersecurity incidents, and engaging with regulators on policy submissions and in the event of breach.
In addition, I advise both traditional and new media companies, as well as tech companies moving into the media space, on content compliance, licensing, and regulation. This is a particular exciting sector in a world of digitisation and content proliferation.
I truly believe that tech and comms is one of the most dynamic areas of law, as the law tries to keep up with the constant evolution of technology. In this digital world, we help our clients navigate the legal landscape so that you can focus on the thing that matters most – growing your business.
