Sozi Tulante

General Counsel

Form Energy

Sozi Tulante is General Counsel of Form Energy and leads Form’s global legal, compliance, and ethics functions, as well as provides strategic counsel on Form’s commercial, legislative, and policy efforts.

Prior to working at Form Energy, Sozi was a partner in the litigation department at Dechert LLP, where he advised clients, such as boards of directors and corporate management, on high-stakes government and regulatory issues. Before working at Dechert, he served as Philadelphia City Solicitor from 2016 to 2018. In that role, he was general counsel for the City’s workforce of 25,000 and population of 1.5 million and was in charge of all of Philadelphia’s legal affairs, including contracting, environmental issues, intellectual property, outside counsel expenditures, and litigation touching on every aspect of the City’s functions. As Solicitor, he led the approximately 215 lawyers of the Philadelphia Law Department and an operating budget of over $15 million and worked closely with the Mayor and City Council on a variety of critical issues.  He established the Department’s first Diversity Committee and hired 78 attorneys, of whom over 50% were racially diverse. Sozi is a former Assistant U.S. Attorney. Through his prior experience, he has extensive experience with legislation and policy at the local, state, and federal levels.

His innovative legal work at the City and Dechert has repeatedly been recognized by: Philadelphia Magazine ( “100 Most Influential Philadelphians” in 2016) the Legal Intelligencer (as one of three finalists for “Attorney of the Year” in 2018); the Philadelphia Inquirer (as one of “25 Legal Influencers” in 2018); University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School (as the top adjunct professor, in 2020); the American Lawyer (as “Litigator of the Week” in September 2021); Savoy (“Most Influential Black Lawyers” in 2022); and Chambers (as a finalist for “Diversity & Inclusion: Lawyer of the Year” in 2022 and for white-collar work and investigations in 2021 and 2022).

Sozi sits on the Board of Directors for Leadership Philadelphia, the Wistar Institute, and the American Inn of Court at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. He also previously worked with the Reconciliation Steering Committee to advise Philadelphia in addressing the systemic inequities following the murder of George Floyd. In this capacity, Sozi served on the six-member Pennsylvania Redistricting Advisory Council to advise the governor on redistricting principles.

Mr. Tulante is a refugee from then Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo), learned English in the Philadelphia public schools, and graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, both times with honors.

She helps drive innovation and growth at Form Energy, supporting a wide range of transactional agreements, compliance, enterprise risk management, and Legal Operations.

She previously served as VP-Associate General Counsel & Head of Legal Operations at The Clorox Company, and led the global Legal Commercial Growth team, including oversight of the international legal team, commercial growth initiatives (licensing, partnership, alliances and e-commerce), commercial contracting (including IT, SaaS, marketing, sales, procurement, logistics, services, consulting, renewable energy and other commercial agreements), and head of Legal Operations.

Adrienne has a broad range of legal experience, including a wide range of commercial contracting, commercial renewable energy agreements, oversight of global Finance, Tax, Treasury legal matters, Enterprise Risk Management, support for Procurement & Product Supply, Sales/Antitrust, Australia, New Zealand, Africa counsel, Canadian counsel, Global Trade Compliance, Benefits/ERISA, employment law support, M&A support, and SEC & corporate governance matters.

In Legal Operations, she has expertise in legal department budget, long range planning, assertive outside counsel management, project management, knowledge management, IT roadmap planning, affirmative recoveries, people development and legal department best practices. She is Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certified, a member of Corporate Legal Operations Consortium (CLOC), and has served as a speaker and panel member at numerous Legal Operations events.

I have particular expertise representing healthcare and hospitals, pharma and biotech companies, hospitality companies, financial services companies, clean energy companies, retailers and universities in both litigation and counseling matters.

I am a member of Seyfarth's National Trial Team and have successfully tried many cases in federal and state court. Some of my jury trials have involved defending claims of discrimination, retaliation, failure to accommodate religious practice, and defamation, to complete defense verdicts. I help lead Seyfarth's innovative Trial Advocacy Institute, training the next generation of trial lawyers.

As a Co-Lead of Seyfarth's Appellate Team, I have significant experience representing employers in high-stakes appeals and post-trial motions in federal and state courts nationwide. I have had success in getting explosive verdicts overturned or drastically reduced.

I am a co-lead and founding member of Seyfarth's Cultural Flashpoints Task Force.

RELIGIOUS ACCOMMODATION, DISCRIMINATION & VACCINE LITIGATION

I have decades of experience helping employers navigate employee requests for religious accommodation and defending employers in religious accommodation and discrimination litigation.

I am a lead attorney representing employers in some of the largest and most consequential vaccine cases in the country. As a member of our Health Emergency & Infectious Diseases Task Force, I provide counseling on an array of health emergency issues.

INVESTIGATIONS

I frequently guide complex and sensitive investigations for clients with judgment, discretion and emotional intelligence. Clients also retain me as an independent investigator in complicated harassment, discrimination and retaliation cases.

PRACTICAL COUNSELOR TO EMPLOYERS
