Things are changing quickly. The reality is that AI tools such as LLMs are already formally or informally embedded in workflows throughout the corporate, legal, and technical landscape. A balanced policy approach to managing legal risk includes accounting for two fundamentals: LLM output is (1) probabilistic and must be verified and (2) responsibility for its use always remains with humans. This presentation will first review the technical landscape of AI tools, focusing on LLMs. Then, organizational legal risks associated with AI use will be surveyed. The presentation will conclude with some considerations for guardrails on AI use.
