Remote work has transformed the modern workplace—but with that flexibility comes a new wave of legal, operational, and security challenges. Join Jackson Lewis P.C. attorneys Kristin Bauer and Aly Guyan, and Yvette Politis, Chief Employment Counsel, RELX Inc., for a two-part series (Part 1) exploring the benefits and pitfalls of remote work, from wage and hour compliance and ADA considerations to emerging risks like deepfake hiring and data exposure.
The same technologies that make remote work possible are also creating new avenues for fraud, deception, and organizational risk. From candidates using AI-generated identities to sophisticated deepfake scams infiltrating hiring processes, employers are facing unprecedented threats at the front end of the employment lifecycle. This session explores the growing intersection of remote work and fraudulent hiring trends, including deepfake interviews, identity misrepresentation, and onboarding vulnerabilities. We will also address downstream risks, including trade secret exposure, data security concerns, and the challenges of enforcing policies and safeguarding confidential information outside a traditional workplace. In addition, we will examine how these issues intersect with existing employment law frameworks—such as anti-harassment obligations when AI-generated content is used in the workplace—and discuss best practices for vetting candidates, protecting company assets, and responding when fraud is detected.
